One of the difficulties confront
ing the engineers in the construc
tion of the pond is the structure
of the earth on Its eite.- Strata of
gravel and shale are alternated with1
those of soft dirt, which will not
hold water. The chief engineer ,
stated that it might be necessary to;
cement the sides of the pond to
make it water tight. .
Five Miles of Tracks '
Railroad tracks are now bein
lald-on the mill grounds and when
finished will Include over five miles
of spurs. A railroad is also to be 1
built from the mill to the timber
holdings of Chambers in the tinner'
Sluslaw country, where he owns
millions of feet of timber. The
length of the railroad will be 12
miles, and it will be connected with
the Southern Pacific railway here.
The carrying on of the mill work
will necessitate the employment
of approximately 150 men, and this
is expected to be a source of em
ployment for many Cottage Grove
men now out of work.
Output 100.000 Vct Daily
The daily output of the mill r,
expected to exceed 100,000 feet of
lumber, making It one of the larg
est In the country.
All in all. the project being fl
