Plans for the expansion of the
Springfield Lumber company plant
here were announced today by of
ficials of the firm. - rhe expansion
program includes the building of
more docks, purchase of now ma
chinery and the establishment of
a retail sales department.
' A tract of land adjacent to the
present mill was purchased re
cently from the Stewart Fuel com
pany, 'it was announced, and this
land will be used for the handling
of new business expected after the
expansion. The lots purchased
were recently taken over by the
city on liens. -'
Additional docks will be built by
the company and new machinery,
including a new motor and a re-
eaw will be purchased. The firm
has not operated a' retail depart
ment In the past but beginning
Januaiy i, retail sales . will be

The company was formed a year
ago and has shown rapid growth
during the year it has been in ex
istence. From no .business the
trade of the mill has been in
creased until now 60 carloads of
lumber are handled monthly... ac
cording to officials. About 15
men are -employed, by the com
pany now. and this number will be
increased as soon as the expan
sion is made. , .
