auction sale was held Monday on
tho Gordon ranch southeast of
here to dispose of the stock and
machinery belonging to M. O. Ban
nlch, who has farmed this place
the past year. The sale was well
attended and cattle brought from
190 upwards and sheep as high as
via per head. Bannich retained
his large flock of White Leghorn
hens and will occupy the same
place another year but will devote
his time mostly to poultry.

Inspired by' real concern on the
part of the public as to the ef
fect of the . general enfranchise
ment of women. Whether the
question emanates from appre
hension or hope, Z am unable to
say.
"It may- be apprehension lest
with some power long deferred

ure:e to exorcise It in somo strange
and novel way, threatening havoc
to the body politic. Or it may
be the hope thai with freshness
of Interest and devotion to lofty

Suffrage long Exercised
"If I were to judge by the fn
quirles that have come to me from
various sections remote from my
own state women have voted In
Wyoming so long that the public
does not regard suffrage as an ex
periment there is more appre
hension than hope.
"It is most amusing and amaz
ing to me. for example, to be asked
as I was soon after my election
whether I expected to nppoint any
men to office. ' This question,
'telegraphed to me from the East
by a well known metropolitan
newspaper, had every indication of
being quite sincere and was ap
parently inspired by the fear that
the elevation of woman to execu
tive office was likely to be followed
by the dismissal of all men and the
substitution of women In tholr

"What possible reason there
could be for such an opinion with
respect to women office-holders Is
difficult, to understand. Women
have been established In the busi
ness and professional fields for
years without working a revolu
tion In business or In the profes
sions . Feminine nhylclans, law
yers, scientists, writers, hankers,
clerks and others havo not to my
knowledge effected any great al
teration In tho methods and pur
poses of their particular calling. It
cannot he reasonably expected
then, I think, that women In pub
lic office would make any attempt
to revolutionize tho government,
