Ole Olson, mall carrier, and a
man from Five Rivers, under
took to pass each other on Hollo
Hill last week, both being on the
right side of the road, and met
head on. on a 20-foot roadbed.
Both machines were damaged, but
the drivers escaped harm.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Carder arc
here for a short visit, from Wash
ington. On the way down, Clyde
shot a coyote that had been both
ering Ben Jones' chickens. This
is believed to be the first coyote
on Lake creek.
If there is anybody between the
head of Dead wood, and the head
of upper Lake creek, that hasn't
either had, is having or has been
exposed to the whooping cough,

Mrs. Emma Johnson died yester
day at her home after a lingering
Illness at the ape of 56 years. She
is survived by her daughter, Mrs.
Wm. "V. Lower, and her son,
Lawrence Johnson of Creswell,
Oregon. A sister, Mrs. Sophie Ek-
lund of Westfir, who was with her i
at tho time of her death, and
three brothers, John S. Anderson
of St. Uaul, Lieutenant Carl An
derson of Fort Snelllng, Minn.,
and Captain O. A. M. Anderson,
stationed at Tientsin, China.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of
tho Presbyterian church, the East
ern Star and the Robekahs and
had lived in Creswell for the last
13 years; coming to Oregon from
Minnesota. .
The funeral will be held at the
Presbyterian church Wednesday
morning at 9 o'clock, Rev. George
Cromley, pastor of the church, of
ficiating. - The remains will He In
state at the home on Tuesday aft
ernoon from two until five. In
terment will bo at Fergua Falls,
Minn. The funeral arrangements
are in charge of E?A. Schwerlng.

Oregon has been the banner state
in organization of new Orajiges
for three years. 26 Granges hav
ing been organized, this making
250 in the state at present.

cle on the beginnings of the
Grange in the work of Oliver Hud
son Kelley and his niece. Miss Car
rie A. Hall. A framed picture of
Miss Hall was given to the Grange
by Mr. and Mrs. Hewitt nnd ap
pears on the east wall with the
picture of the founders.
-The Grange decided to give a
chicken pie supper on New Year's
nignt at the nnll. The next meet
ing of the Grange will be an all
day session commencing at 10
o'clock Saturday, December 12, at
which time initiatory work in the
first and second degrees will be
given and tho annual election of
officers held. A -dinner at noon
will be served.
Mrs. Bond also spoke of the new
Interest being taken in the Grange
at Goshen and in response to her
invitation several carloads were
pledged to attend the meeting at
Goshen next Tuesday evening.
