Thanksgiving
When Governor Bradley proclaimed the first Thanksgiving Day,
"That wo might after more special manner rejoice together," ha
sent four men into the forest for gamo and fowl and ordered the
best cooks in tho colony to prepare the feast. Among those, and
in charge of the largest kitchen, was Prlscilla, John Alden's future
wife. i
When the feast was well under way, who entered the settlement
other than Chief Massasolt, greatest or all the Indian kings. All
courtesy was shown him; his was a seat of honor. But, more
pleasing to the great chief than anything else was none other than
a dish especially prepared for him by Priscilla, the lovliest maiden
in all the colony. . ' , , , , "" '
That spirit of courtesy mingled In with thanksgiving Is soon to
be renewed In every climate of the world. . '
