liur nt her home here after a brief
illness. Acute indigestion was

mother, Mrs, Kennedy, of this city.
Mr. and Mm. Hoof came to
Springfield about SO years ago to
make their home,- and trine that
time Mrs. Root has been promi
nent In church and civic work, and
has at all times had the resuect
and friendship of the community.
She was a member of the Metho
dist church, and was affiliated with
the civio and .other organ isuitons.
The funeral will be held at the
Methodist church Thursday at two
P. M., with Rev, Yarns, pastor. In
charge. Interment will be at the
laurel Hill cemetery. The Walker
chapel is In charge of arrangements..

Iowa and other eastern points.

ELECTION DATE DIFFERS
UNION HIGH SCHOOLS VOTE
MONDAY, Jl'NE ZS '
Union high schools which are
supported by more than two or
less than six districts win hold
their annual elections at a dif
ferent time from the regular dis
trict elections, according to a new
law passed by the last legislature.
E. J. Moore; county school super
intendent, yesterday called atten
tion to the new law, which pro
vides that sueh union districts
shall hold their elections the
fourth Monday In June or tho
16th instead of the 18th, which la
the third Monday.
The new law provides that all
kold directors go out of office at
that time and five new ones are
to be elected, the candidate hav
ing the highest vote getting the
five-year term, the one next, high
est the four-year term and so on
down the line. After this one
will be elected each year.
The union high schools In the
county thus affected by this law
are No,. 1, .Pleasant Hill; N0.1 I.
Lorane; No. 6. Waltervllle; No.
, Walker, and No. 7. Thurston.
