was placed befont the plghway
commission In Portland yesterday
by the committee from the Al
bany chamber of commerce and
will be referred to the attorney
general for bis opinion. The pro
gress made so far is considered
good and some means of Improv
ing the road is hoped for, say tho
committee.
Patvlng of the .S3 mile stretch
near Murder creek on the Pacific
highway between Albany and Jef
ferson will start Monday, accord
ing to W. K. Wright, highway
engineer. Traffic over the high
way will take the old road while
the work of paving is being done;
The pavfng work wtn be done by
Soelm and Gustafson. -
The stretch In the Calapooia
bottom between Shedd and Tan
gent will be completed this year
and pavfng between Halsey snu
Harrisburg will ' be completed,
making an unbroken stretch of
pavement from Portland to Har-

accurately by the readings from
Eugene,- but In case of heavy rains
between Albany and Eugene the
rise cannot be estimated, causing
much loss of stock. For this rea
son the gauge Is to be placed.
