Johnston. The petition for tho formation of the district was recently presented to the county court and the hearing yester day was for tho purpose of ascer taining the sentiment of tho property owners that will be affected by the proposal. Arguments both for the organising of the district and against tho plan wore offered at the meeting. Five land owners temporarily withdrew from the project cotendlng that the proposed drainage plan would not be a benefit to their holdings in the district. One resident desired to have only part of his land Included bj according to his statement the drain age project would only be of value to a certain section of his property. The decision of the county court wns that the plan should be ordered and that the survey should be authorised. Wash Ington, well known to many Eugene veterans, where they received their first military training In the early day of the war, is fast disappearing with the demolition of many of the buildings and plans that are under way for a further raxing or the bar racks, according to local men who re turned after attending the citizens' military training camp. The regular troops now stationed at the camp are being sent to other posts and the famous "barns' that drew much humorous comment from tho i' oops In the war days are stated for destruction which will perhaps ring back memories to the many local soldiers who recall the ml lea of wood en structures that at one time housed over 60,000 men nt the peak of tha training period. Tho passing of the old cantonment will also be regretted by many of the ex-service men who may temember the many friendships formed during the stirring days of preparation for war and the fact that many of the men who went forth from the camp gave their lives on the bat tlefield in Europe.
