HAS A FAMOUS CAST
Tb Rax theater presents "Hirer of
Romance," a picture complete In en
tertainment value, for Wednesday end
Thursday. The story . taken from
South xarkington's "Magnolia," a
popular book and a more popular pier.
The caat is exceptionally fine Includ
ing the ever-famous Charles (Buddy)
Rogers; Mary Brian, who almost stole
the show; Wallace Beery who took
plenty ox nonors; Henry is. waitnai,
famous since the days of "The Birth
of a Nation." as a southern gentle-
man; and Natalie Kingston, who puts
plenty of personality to the role of
''Mexico," the female master of cere
monies ox a gamming nouae.
This picture waa filmed several
years ago with another famous star
Comparison from the faint recollec
tion places thla production on a much
higher pedestal due to the all-talking
ieaiure. .
The story iu something every on
lfkea. The hero la branded a coward
because he refuses to fight a duel as
he is not accustomed to the southern
tradition. He leaves home. It'a the
only thing he could do after breaking
such a strong southern tradition. But
he turns the tables by knocking the
"Notorious Colonel Blackie" out in
the first round of an unannounced
ecran. He bluffs hie way with the aid
of Orlando Jackson, Wallace Beery,
to be known up and down the Mississ
ippi as the "Notorious Colonel Blake."
He comes back and makes good. It's

'BROTHEnLY LOVE
It's a riot!
That Is the only term yoa can nse
for the Georpe K. Artuur-Karl Dane,
gag-filled production now at the Col
onial theater, Jt is called "Brotherly
Dove," which is the tpfrit installed
in the hearts of the ''hardened" crim
inals of the prison in which Arthur
finds himself.
It is a satire, pure, simple and
funny, and there Is no indication of
holding criminal methods up to cor
rupt the morels of any "young Amer
icas" that might happen to eee the
picture.
Arthur Is a sweet young thing, a
flor pan of a high elas barber shop,
and Dane Is a zuard of the orison. In
a sena ot ridiculous sequences tnese
two men mix up. Arthur lands in
orison and falls in love with the war
den's daughter. The prison itself is
nan coiitge and ii&u pen.
Instead of breaking rock the dHs
oners play football and Arthur de
velop such - soeed that he ia made
captain. He receives bis parole just
before the big game but manages to
get put back in prison to play. Dane
gets a berth in the rival prison and
r&e two rivals tor the band ol tne
warden's daughter meet on the arid-
iron. The way "brotherly love fi-
nauy wins tne game tor tne old pen
will tear down any resistance yoa may
have against laughing, if it isn't torn
down in the first flash.

Theme songs come and theme songs
go, but im Ihirsty J? or Kisses, Im
Hungry For Love" seems to be one
theme song that's here to stay.
'I'm Thirsty For Kisses, I'm Hun-
rrv For love" will he heard when
Colleen Moore's latest picture "Why
Be Good opens next Ibursday for a
three day engagement at the McDon
ald theater. Several variations of It
have been recorded on the Vitaphone.
"Why Be Good" is a flaming youth
type of story that first carried Col
leen Moore to the heights of popular
ity. D'Artagnan and the three muske
teers have come to town.
Douglas Fairbanks' new picture,
"The Iron Mask." is the present at
traction at the Heilie theater. L'oug
Is tts"in the gay and dashing D'Artag
nan of "The Three Musketeers," of
which this picture is a sequel. Alez
nndre Dumas taust have known a
seventeenth century Doug when he
created D'Artagnan, for the muskc
teer'a cape fits the Fairbanks shoul
ders as if made to order.
"The Iron Mask" is the sort of
picture which inspires adjectives,
magnificent settings, gorgeous page
antry, breathtaking adventure. It has
everything, comedy, tragedy, drama,
adventure and Doug.
There Is probably no one better
equipped to talk about talking pic
tures than Richard Bennett, who is
featured with the Vitaphone talking
picture, "The Home Towners," now
at the State theater.
Mr. Bennett, whether actor, stage
director, playwright, star in films or
on the legitimate stage, has always
been a commanding figure. As doc
tor of plays he has few equala In the
business.
Plantation days on the old Mis
sissippi, that picturesque period be
fore the war, form the background of
the highly absorbing romance-drama.
"River of Romance" which opened
at the Rex theater last night and
which will be seen there for the next
two days.
The play is based upon the famous
story, "Magnolia," by the renowned
American author, Booth Tarkington.
It brings to the foreground as a ro
mantic "period" actor, Charlea
(Buddy) Rogers, the youth who
scored so tremendously as a soldier
boy hero in "Wings."
The ability to look and act dumb
is an advantage to some. Witness
Sid Saylor'a rise in the comedy field.
Savior Is starred in the comedy
"Close Shaves" now playing at the
Rex theater. He has been appearing
in the "Let George Do It ' aeries
which were knockouts in every re
spect and his new laugh film is the
utmost in comedy eftect. He has
been placed on a long time contract
to star in two reel subjects by Uni
versal Pictures Corporation.
