T PART
No small part in this year's Lane
county fair, coming next week from
Wednesday on, will be played by
women of Eugene and Ine county,
it is revealed in announcements of
plans by the various groups partici
pating. While the mate fair visitors
are examining the county's best
horsea and livestock on display in
the harm., the feminine contingent
will find much of interest in home
proems, home textile, and art ex
hibit in the main pavilion at the
fair.
Mrs. J. H. Coleman haa hin
placed in charge of th.o home exhibits.
10 nave a large diock ot spare in
the eastern division of the main pa
vilion. Hern thn ranninf work nt
Lane county women will be displayed,
always one of the most interesting
exhibits at the fnir. The textile divi
sion will include needlework, and
Awards will be made both in this and
the process displays. Mra. Marion
Fields has been placed in charge of
the art department.
These exhibits, while contributed
to largely bv women, will also ba of
considerable interest to men, and It
is expected that msny of the art
pieces will bo entered by roeu. The
art eiiuint win be nearby In the
main pavilion. Women also are ex-
lectetl to help materially in the
'lower show, superintended by Coun
ty Assessor Hen F. Keeney.
Ihe Chambers building at the fair
grounds, donated last year for the
purpose, will be used this year for
service and display headquarters of
the Girl Scouts, the Lane County
lealth association, the Lane County
Chapter of the American Red Cross,
and the county home Hmontrtion
agent. Miss Gertrude Skow.
Kach group will be given a corner
of the building and It is planned to
have displays showing the work of
the organizations among the people
of Lane county. Here also will be a
health service liendquarters, with easy
chairs and other rest room facilities,
and possibly a first aid headquarters
planned against emergencies.
Probably the most ambitious plan
of a woman's group at the fair is i
that of the Eugene Utirden club's
rnnd'Me committee, which hill have
a model highway in front of the
main pavilion. This exhibit will il
lustrate the sort of roadnide im
provements which the Garden clubs
urge as a means of retaining the
beauty of Oregon's highways. Mrs.
L. J. Temple is in direct charge of
the construction of the highway,
while the sponsoring committee Is
headed by Mrs. Jnssin Honey man,
chairman of the Eugene and the
state federation roadside committee.
In addition to theee features, a
number of women's and girls' or-
?anieations will have booths on the
airg rounds where food will be sold.
The Campfire girls have plans for
such a booth, as well as several
Ladies' Aids and similar groups.
Feminine visitors at the fnir will
also find much of interest in the live
stock and poultry exhibits, and the
general community and industrial ex
hibits which play such an im
portant part fn the big exposition.
The horse racing, rodeo, ann enter
tainment program each afternoon and
evening before the grandstands also
will find a generous feminine . fol-.
lowing, ft Is expected.
Afternoon progroms at the fair
will start at 1:H0 o'clock, and eve
ning programs at 7:30 o'clock. Both
season and single tickets may be ob
tained for the fair, although the sea
sonal pasteboards will provide a sav
ing for those who have time to at
tend more than a single event at the
fair.
