TURKEY PRICES DOWN
The Eugene branch of Swift and
company was quoting turkeys some
what cheaper Monday. Local pro
duce buyera are now cleaning up on
this year s crop and buying is not
verv heavy. The Drices given Monday
were 81 cents on young toms; 28 cents
on bens; and 20 cents on Both old
toms and number twos.

At the opening of the market today
eggs and butter remained nt Satur
day's quotations. Excellent hothouse
ioniatoes from the Eugene territory
are offered at from $3.50 to $5 for
20 pound boxes, wholesale. The re
tniier fixes his prices accordingly.
Hothouse rhubarb is also plentiful at
$3.73 to $4 for a 20 pound box whole
sale. Artichokes of delicious texture
may be hnd two for a quarter. In
the fruit market, oranges are re
ported to be in a precarioua condi
tion because rains navo interrereu
with picking in California, conse
quently, when present stocks are de
pleted a sharp and sudden advance is
expected, up to oaturnay, oranges
were plentiful, especially the smaller
slues, which could be purchased two

Reduced rate, for electricity for

Ir. Roval J. Dye, former mission
ary to Amca, where he aided in ea

of the Congo river, will give a public
address in tho First Christian chures
of Eugene on Thursday evening, Jan.
M at 7 MO o clock, it was announced
by Dr. E. P. Stivers, pastor.
Dr. Dye began work at the Bolenge
Mission station In 1HIH and served
there until 1W7 when Mrs. Dye was
compelled to return to America on
account of broken health. He later
spent a period on this mission field
without his family.
This pioneer medical missionary
was the only doctor for hundreds of
miles in the Conco country to combat
tropical diseases, lie was among the
first to attack the problem of sleep-
ing sickness among the natives aud j
contractor it himself with the result
that he had to leave that climate.
These early days of tho Congo
Mission were filled with dangers and
hardships. The great majority of the
people in tne oacK country were can
