The mother of the Itonberg twins

Across the street two of the neigh

at them, curiously.
They seemed happy and contented
in their placid, deep-bosomed ma

Hut I wonder if they really are.
Cloria asked herself. "Or are they
sick and tired of married life, like I

She quickened her steps and caught

"What would you like to do, real

Mrs. Donbrrg tauithed.
"Well," she said, "I've had three
cans of blue paint up ou ray broom

Gloria's interest flugged.
She certainly had nothing In com

She Bflid goodby to her and walked
Dick was In the side-yard trnns

'"Hello, where have you been all

"At May's house," Gloria answered
briefly.
IMck ran up the front steps and
opened the door for her. lie followed
her into the house.
He asked her how May was. He
told her thnt Mrs. Gordon had tele
phoned an invitation to spend the Any

Hut (xlorin knew that that was not
what he had come into the house to
say.
He said it leaning up against the
newel-post -at the foot oT" the stairs,
nervously tapping the trowel be still
held, on the polished wood.
"Hoc Seymour thinks I ought to
go away for a rest," he said. "How
would you like to go away with me
for a couple of weeks, or so? It
would do us both good."
Gloria's eyes nnrrowed.
"Is your mother going along, by
any chance?" she n sited, biting off
the words, like little bits of ice.
"We el, jDoc Seymour thinks she
ought to go along." he began. "She's
not getting over her operation as well

Gloria interrupted him, snappishly.
"Is she going?" fhe asked sharply.
"Now don't hedije, Iiek! She is go-1

"Well, go with he, then! Hut

wonderful plnce on earth, with your
mother, IHrk! I rnn't stand her!"
Angry tears sprang to her eyes.

She went into the little taffeta

"Oh, dry up and blow away!"
Gloria answered crossly. "I'm not

She stopped suddenly. She had
just found the letter! Stanley Way
