The Italian war debt to the United
States today became the seventh to
be formally started on its way to
funding settlement, when Ambassador
de Martino and Mario Alberti, rep
resenting the Italian government, had
an engagement with Secretary Mellon
and Under Secretary Winton, chair
man and secretary of the American
debt commission, to begin tbe discus
sion, j
The Italian obligation is approxl- I
mately $2,13S,0OO,OOO and the Italian
government desires that its payment
be spread over a period of years. The
length of time to be allowed therefore
constitutes one of the important
phases of the question with which
this and future conferences have to
deal.
It already was known that Italy
was pressing for a delay in the be- .
ginning of remittances. Neither the
treasury nor the embassy would in
dicate, however, the duration of the
proposed moratorium but it was said
in some quarters to be ten years. Se
crecy is to surround nil of the con- ,
ferences on the Italian debt.

had to sit on the same platform with
the governor when the latter receiv
ed an honorary degree.
The Waterbury American says Mr.
Taft took his doctor's advice to avoid

have been caused by the demands of
old friends for commencement re
unions. When Professor William Lyon
Phelps presented 'he governor to

The new mill is now in operation
and is one of the largest is tre west.
It consists of two main units, a saw
mill and a pinner. The mill is under a
shed ;!00 feet long hy m feet wide,
while a roof 2.TO feet by 11(1 covers
the planer. The equipment is com
plete and modern in every wav.
