forest fire weather. Liwrenre Wells
of Halsey. lookout was dispatched
this morning by the Cascade Nation
al forestry office to tnke his station
at I-airson Itock, five miles south of
Oakridge. The humidity dropped to 14
yesterday at Oakridge, and the forests
there are drying fast.
A man is ordinarily not put on
that station until July 1, Smith L.
Taylor, forest ranger at McKenzie
bridge, is also putting- W. W. Halsey
on lookout at Castle Hock today five
days earlier than usual.
The condition during the next few
days will be one of considerable anx
iety, to forest men, according to a
telegram received by the Cascade of
fice this morning carrying the wea
ther forecast from Portland:
"I.o.w humidity light to fresh drying
north to east winds will continue Fri
day probably .Saturday except coast,"
The telegram was phoned by the
Eugene office to outlying forestry
stations, patrolmen and lookouts, and
every precaution is bring taken.
