"I tried to telephone you nil over

"Don't ever do it again!" Gloria
cried sharply. "I'm usually down
town shopping, so it's no use trying
t get me by phone, anyway. . . .
Let's g" up and try to get Mr. Greg
ory intit bed before the doctor comes."
They were unlacing J tick s shoes
when 1'r. John arrived.
Deftly as n nurse, he undressed ;
lHck and nut him into bed. He I
took out his stethoscope and listened)
to Dirk's buck and chest. Then he J
pruvely nodded hiB head as he timed j
Dick's pulse.

best imeumoni.i nurse in this town. ;
Gloria stood like a statue in tne
middle of the room. In a dream
it niiihtinaro . . . she heard
Dr. Joint call Mrs. O'Harn, and send
a tttxicab for her.
She listened to bun ordering things
from the drug store , . . camphorated .
oil, cotton, brandy.
And all at once, it was brought
Imme to Glorin why it ..tis that J r.
John couldn't go with May to all the
parties and dances. . . . People needed
him, ns Hick needed him now! Their
very lives depended on his not going
to parties with Ins- fun-loving wife
, . on his sticking to his job.
Glory had never thought of it in
just that way before. She had always
pitied May, because she wns a doc
tor's wife. Well, she still pitied her.
and yet
"New, then. Glory, the best thing
you can do is to move all your things
out of this room! And I want you
I" stay out, yourself!" Ir. John said
briskly.
Glory gave a nervous little laugh.
"No need to ask me to stay out of
this room," she snid. "I'm frightened
t' death of sick people."
Ht eyes were wide with fe.ar.
"What makes him breathe like
