Two smart nffatrs of late spring
worn upon nor ed this week by Mra. F.
lu Stetson and Mrs. Horl Douglass
on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
The Anrhoraga teahouse was the
scene of a bridge, party Tuesday af
ternoon to which the hostesnes had
extended invitations to one hundred
guests. Lupin and California popples
arranged in huge bouquets about the
rooms made a stunning color setting
of blue and yellow for this occasion.
Receiving with Mrs. Stetson and
Mm. Douglass for the afternoon were
Mrs. K. I.. Tarkard and Mrs. Robert
Prescott.
Yesterday afternoon one hundred
or more were invited to a tea given
at the home of Mrs. Htetson. The
tea table was most attractive with
the hoquet of choice roses while large
howls of the same flowers in many
colors were used about the rooms.
Mrs. I,. H. Johnson, Mrs. Ella
Stearns, Mm. Mildred Giffen. Mra.
O. K. Stafford, Mrs. E. C. nobhlns.
and Mrs. James H. Gilbert assisted
the hontesses at this occasion, and
a number of girls of the Alpha XI
Pclta sorority assisted in serving.
Monday Hook club members gath
ered at "luglcterra," the home of
Mrs. A. Ii. Ingalls for a very inter
esting afternoon of study Monday.
One-half of the organisation member
ship entertained the other half. Each
member gave a brief report or sketch
of the books ahe enjoyed the most
during the past winter s study.
On June tenth the club Is to be
entertained m "Wilgove,' the sum
mer home of Mrs, E. ,M. Wtlkins on
the Mi'Keniie. At this time the del

Mrs. A. I.. IngalU, who are to attend
tho convention of the State Federa
tion of Women's clubs in Marshfield

The betrothal of Ming Alice Evans
and Floyd Monlps was a noun red the
past .week in Portland. The wedding
is to be an event of June twenty
eight. Mihm Evans is a graduate
of the I'nlversity of Oregon and a
member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
She is the daughter of Judge and
Mm. Walter II. Evans of Portland.
Mr. Howies is also a graduate of the
university and is a member of Kappa
Sigma. He is the son of Mr. and
Mra. Joseph M. Itowlea of Portland
Aloha club members were guests
for an attractive luncheon and after
noon of bridge for which Mra. Paul
H. Kelly was hostess at her home
Tuenday afternoon. A large bouquet
of bachelor buttons was used as the
centerp.ee at the table. Mm. 11. K
Purgan was bidden as an additional
guest for the afternoon.
At a very simple but impressive
ceremony performed at the home of
the. bride, Misa Eva Pease and Wil
liam Duckworth were married at noon
Sunday. Only members of the two
fatuities were in attendance. nev.
Alhyn Esson of the First Christian
church of Albany read the ceremony
which was performed before the fire
place which was banked with masses
of blue lupin and California poppies.

played a number of instrumental so
los. Mr. and Mrs. Duckworth left
immediately for Portland, returning
at mid-week. They will make their
home in Eugene.

ing when the annual senior breakfast
was held, at which time the. junior
women entertained the senior wo
men. The affair ia sponsored each
year by the Young Women's Chris
tian association .of the universlity.

One of the many interesting and
successful functions sponsored by the
Colleee Crest Community club of this
year, was held Thursday evening when
one hundred and aeventy-nve mem
bers and friends were entertained at

The Domestic Art club which was
to have met for a picnic luncheon at

day has postponed the affair until a

On Monday evening the auxiliary of
the American Iegion is to meet in the
chamber of commerce rooma at seven-
thirty o'clock for regular session.

Officers for the coming year were
elected, and arrangements completed
for the rose show to be held June 3
at the annual banquet of the Ladies'
auxiliary of the chnmber of commerce
Wednesday evening. More than one
hundred and fifty attended the affair.

to head the organization and Mrs.
A. I Ijomax waa named vice-president.
Mrs. Earl Robertson was chosen
secreary, Mrs. A. R. Paria, assistsnt
secretary, M. Ethel Taylor, treasurer,
and Mra. Guy Pyle, corresponding
secretary. A vote of thanka was given
to the retiring' officers, Mrs. J. B.

The auxiliary also elected Mrs. Tay

An Interesting event of the coming
week for the club women of Eugene
is to be the convention of the State
Federation of Women's Clubs which
is to be held in Marshfield. Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
The Eugene Fortnightly club and
the Monday Book club are the two
city groups affiliated with the state
organisation, ami the I'nivemity of
Oregon Women's league is also a
member.
Eugene delegates are Mrs. Edwin
Ik Kuapp, president, and Mm. A. Ik
Ingalls from the Monday Hook club;;
Mrs. K. F. Carletoo. president. Mrs.

at her home yesterday afternoon, in

While the days are numbered in
-small figures until final examinations
mnke their appearance at the univer
sity for the close of the school year,
j the campus has had a very active
time, socially, the past wen.
Two prominent students in the
school of music were presented in
recital this week. Particularly inter
esting to Eugeneans was the junior
organ recital of Miss Frances Pierce
on Tuesday evening and which was
decidedly pleasing. Miss Pierce is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Pierce
of this city and is an accomplished
organist and pianist. She is accom
panist for the university choir and
the Eugene Oratorio society.
Miss Ruth Akers, soprano, gave
her senior recital on Thursday eve
ning. During her four years at the
university Miss Akers has won many
friends, and has been soloist at a
number of the churches and at other
musical events of the city.
On Wednesday evening occurred
the ..dance drama which is becoming
one of the outstanding events of each
year's university calendar.
Thursday evening the banquet and
initiation of Phi Beta Kappa and Sig
ma Xi waa held.
And last evening came the annual
banquet of the Emerald staff which
marks the close of each year's work
on the university daily, and at which
time members of the staff gather to
receive awards, Emerald O's and par
ticipate in other events which take
place only at such a banquet

tentain with a luncheon at the home
of Mrs. Stanley Stevenson on Friday
of next week, honoring Mrs. Marion
Veatch. a member of the club who is
expected to return this weVk-end to
Eugene after a year or more absence
in the near east.
