In all there were but three call-

Senor Jose Del Carmen, the

Don F. Ederico Velasquez, vlce

other cancelled engagements was
with a group of visiting police
chiefs. ,
Health Has Been Good
Ordinarily Mr. Coolidge's health
jus been more robust than is
ordinary for a man of his years.
He scarcely has mlBsed a day
from his desk because of illness
rince he entered the White' House.
For some years, however, he baa
raftered slightly from throat trou
ble and has consulted specialists
periodically on that account.
Recently he has applied himself
more closoly than usual to the
duties of office, working long
boars and omitting many social
engagements. Last year he went
with Mrs. Coolidge to the circus,
snd when circus time came around
apiln a week ago, a box was re
served for him but only Mrs.
Coolldge of the White House oc
cupied it
The hot wave that has been
sweeping over a good part of
the country hit Washington with
smothering force late laBt night
snd early today and when the
president reached his desk the
sun was beating down mercilessly
on the south windows of his
office.
Because of the high tempsra
tures and humidity of Washing
ton summers, plans already have
been made for setting up a sum
mer house next month at Swamp
scott, Mass.
i There were some indications
that he also hnd felt a touch of
Indigestion, but all Information
of ao official character was with
held pending conclusion of the
examination by physicians. .
In addition to the day s special
engagements, the president's daily
reception to d'elegates of visitors
also was cancelled. Recently these
delegations have been unusunlly
large. Yesterday he shook hands
with all hundred.
Mrs. Coolidge waa out walking

When Bhe returned soon after
