Giant Dirigible is
Back at Lakehurst
After Long Journey
A largo audience received very fa
vorably the concert presented by the
Cecilian Choral club of CO voices in
the Music auditorium at the Universty
of Oregon last evening at S o'clock.
The music wr.s presented under the
direction of Hugh Winder, choir di
rector and soloist of St. Mary's Cath
olic church. The same program will be
broadcast tomorrow evening from
Oregonian radio station KUW to an
audience of 300.000 people. The song
cycle, "Jn a Persian CJ'arden." will be
sung at 7 o'clock by Joanna James
Kllis, Evelyn Bristow. John Siefert
and Hugh Winder, assisted on the
piano by Charles Uunyan. This part
of the concert will occupy about 4j
minutes. It will he followed by a five
minute talk on Eugene. At S:;tO the
remainder of the program will he
presented. The choral club will sing
high mass in St. Mary's cathedral in
Portland at 9:45 o'clock Sunday
morning.
Prelude March, by Henry Smart,
played on the pipe organ by Daisy
Belle Parker began the program for
last "evening. The orcanist nlaved
with vigor and brilliance, with agree-1
able interpretation of the singing
(jtinlity of the second movement. Mo-
zart's (Piorin Twelfth Mass. was '
sung by the Choral club in English, I
under the skilled d.rection of Mr.
Winder. John Siefert sang Jensen's
"Murmuring Zephyrs" with charm
and finish. His diction is admirable.
The gulden quality of his resonant
tenor vn'co was apparent in the en
core, as well. Veni Jesu. by'Cherubinl
was suns Latin by the Choral club
with d:gnity and grace.
Joanna James Kllis. sonrano. who
was to have Fung Hainbriilgc Crist's
"The Dark King's I laughter." sang
instead Massanet's "Elegy"' by re- i
quest. Mrs. Ellis' singing was full of j
color anil charm. and exquisitely
phrased. She sang "Love's on the
High Itoad"' as an encore. A splendid
rendition of the Lntiti in Verd 's Jesu
Dei Vivi was presented by the trio.
Joanna Jam's Ellis, John Siefert and
Hugh Winder. This was followed by
a solo by Mr. Winder, "The Horn,"
