George S. Bird
Dies at his Home
George Snyder Bird. 13-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Bird,
died Sundny morning at the home of
his parents, Twenty -fourth and Col
umbia streets. Tbe boy was a student
at Condon school, and a member of
the boy scouts. Besides bis parents he
survived by lour brothers, tjlcll
Bird, of Portland; Bluford Bird, Glen
Bird, and Loinodore Bird, all of hu-
gene, and one eister, Margaret, alsj
of KJugene.
The funeral will be held Tuesday
afternoon at i! o'clock at the Bran
stetter chapel, and Interment will be

Weather Fails to
Bar Lane Anglers
Fishermen's luck was not so good
yesterday as the Willamette was mud
dy due to heavy rains and although
the Mchcnxie wan somewhat cleaner
there were but few reports of limit
cntcbes made. Many anglers braved
tho inclement weather to try for the
trout and a large number of cars
were reported along the McKenzie
route during tho day. A few anglers
who tried out tho tiiuslaw report thnt

the McKenxie area. The general con
census of opinion of the trout hunt
ers wan that it wns a very poor day
to enjoy this sport.
Funeral Services
Are Held Sunday
Funeral services for tho late J.
Nf, Shelley, Lnne county pioneer, were
held yesterday afternoon from tbe
Veatch chapel. A big crowd of friends
of the deceased heard the sermon of
Ir. K. V. Stivers, pastor of the First
Christian church, who reviewed the
chief events of Mr. SheNeys active
life.
The I. (). O. F. ritual ceremonies
were rend at the grave, interment be
ing in the old I. O. O. F. cemetery.
Mr. Shelley leaves a widw. Mrs.
Nsncy J. Shelley, as well as a son
and daughter.

of the stretch of more than four miles
on the Pneifio highway between
Junction City and Ilarrisburg are un
der way and thia project in expected

the gravel near the west ferry landing

May 1, according to local contractors
