The lumber market in the Eugene

considerable improvement during the

there has been more inquiry and also
actual business from the middle weU

The Southern Pacific railway com
pany recently placed a large quantity
of ties and this has relieved the sit
uation greatly, for s me of the mills
that were in need of cutting. Order
for bridge plant have been sufficient
to meet the needs of the mills and
prices are, if anything, a little bit
stronger than they were.
Standard ties, says the report, are
till a drug on the marker, as vir
tually no new business of this kind
has been placed here for some time.
With one exception, there are no
stacks of any consequence on hand
in the mills of Lane county.
