Approval of the bond measures n
the special election ballot April 13 .
will assure people of Eugene a pure
water supply adequate for a popula
tion of 50,000 in years to come, and
at an added expense not to eseeed 25c
a month to each water account, de
clared C A. McClain. superintendent
of the citr water board, at the lunch
con meeting of the Rotary club today.
Mr. McClain stated that the board
had made investigations and bad rec
ommended the Huyden bridge project
as a result of public demand last
year. People were dissatisfied with
the Willamette river water, not only
because its bacteria test waa lower,
but also because expansion was lim
ited. The McKenzie project would
provide the ten million gallons A day
needed 2o years from now, the
speaker said.
"The people of Eugene will not
burden themselves by approving these
bonds," said Mr. McClain. "The water
board expects to take care of the in
creased cost by itt rates, when spread
over the 30-year period estimated as
tbe life of the pipe, would be only a
(light increase over present rates.
"If we take the initial step at this
time, we will be Assured of a better
and purer' water to start with, and
one requiring much less chemical to
purify."
Paul R. Kelty, editor of The
Guard, spoke on "Worth While ThiBg
and Service."
