1024 than in nny previous year, ac
cording to the federal department of
agriculture. The report of the de

To Improve Grounds
Preparing ground for the planting
of flowers has kept the university
ground workmen busy1 the last week
spading between University and Unyx
streets and south of the extension
building on University street. Chry
santhemums and wild aster bulbs have
been planted on the fourth acre strip
back of the university depot tool
house, and dahlias and aster seeds
placed in the ground near the1 exten
sion building. Work on grading of the
parking along Kincaid street near
Oregon building, and the ground
around and in front of the Y. M. C.
A. huut has recently been completed.

Six companies ..ml the band of the
I!. O. T. C. of the university -will take
part in a series of parades anil re
views starling about April 20, it is
announced. The parades, which are to
he six in all. will be held on Thurs
day even ngs. Order to this effect-has
been issued by Colonel Mnclnir as a
result of instructions from the war

blies of all Ihe companies for drill.
No reeular drill periods will be held

Miss Alberta Potter of Eugene Has
beeu appointed head of violin instruc
tion at Alabama Women' college, one
of the leading music schools of the
south, it U announced. Miss Potter is
a graduate in music from the Univer
sity of Oregon, and studied in PJ2I!

Carnival Announced
A joint carnival by the Huskies pio
neer club of the Norkenaie and Wil
lamette neighborhoods will be held

The entertainment will have the main
features of a real carnival, with aid
shows with the fat man, giant, magi
cian, hot dogs, popcorn and candy.
Proceeds will go toward equipping the
baseball team.

Eugene today. Mr. Hansen is aiming
