ways the hazard that in accident
might close the works and with the
druiniuit off of the supply of water
from tho present storage facilities
there would be a serious result im
mediately," the report states.
"We are asking -the people of Eu
gene to vote this additional bond issue
of $135,000 to provide against any
such witter famine and also to meet
tho ever increasing demand for ejten
sion of, service due to the growth of
toe city."
Big Mains Planned.
The proposed system ns luid out on
the recently completed survey i
eludes the installation of two 12-Inch
mains as feeders that will reach
practically all parts of the city as they
will tie iu with tne present system of
mams, many of the present hnea be
ing six to eight inch pipes. This heavy
pressure that will result means a
greatly iucrensed protection against
fire, it is pointed nut.
One of tiie proposed feeders will
run from the pumping nlnnt along
Sixth avenue to Pearl street, north lo
Fifth avenue, west to Chnrnclton
street, north to Fourth avenue and
west to Madison. This will provide
heavy water pressure for a large and
growing residence area north nnd
northwest of Skinner butte. Ip rase
of fire in this area at present water
would be drawn from a two and one-
half inch main and the pipes would be
pumped dry in a short time by the
fire apparutus, the report states.
Benefit Is Told.
' This new main will not only be of
great benefit to the many adjacent
street! but it is laid out so that it can
be .closed iu with mains farther soutn
and iucreuse the water pressure
throughout the urea as fur as Eleventh
avenue west and west of Monroe
atreet. A connection can also be
made wilh the preatut Hlnir boule
vard uiniu. This one 12-inch main
will provide pressure sufficient for
any demands pt the present and for
some time to come nnd for several
hundred blocks will give a fire protec
tion that under present conditions is
inadequate.
Another of the proposed high pre
sure mains will run south from the
pumping plant on Patterson street as
far ns Seventeenth avenue east. This
main will raise the pressure through
out tho area traversed nnd connect
with the present heavy 10-inch main
that provides for a lnrgo district be
yond Thirteenth avenue east nnd opt
'University and Alder streets.
All City Benefits.
This Patterson street main is
planned so that it will be connected
west across the city with the O. liege
Crest reservoir and the lines from the
north connecting with file end of the
proposed feeder that will terminate at
Fourth avenue nnd Madison street.
This system will provide a closed cir
cuit .with high pressure 12-inch mains
as feeders nt each end practically en
circling nil of the city giving a greatly
increased pressure and meeting pres
ent demand and providing for the in
crease in number of homes, it Is
stated.
"These proposed heavy pressure
mains are in reality ports of the water
sturoge system and aro dependent on
the erection of the proposed reservoir
on the east end of Skinner butte to
replace the present inadequate stor
age facilities there. This reservoir
which is urgently needed will assure
irAnu tiiurend nf having less
than two doys water supply on hand
will have at least five at all times,"
the report explains.
