The government engineer nlo gives
details of the road improvement oper
ations that are planned for the road
this year. No definite plans have as
yet been worked out concerning the
road opening celebration although it
is expected that both Eugene and
Dend will participate.
The following is the letter received
from the district engineer:
"Our plans are to start surfacing
operations Just as soon as weather
conditions will permit and to run two
shifts, thus reducing the time thst
the road will be under construction.
This plan under ordinary conditions
will take us well into August or the
first of September. Our suggestion ns
to time would be August, ami tne lat
ter nart if convenient.
"There are several placea along the
rood where a celebration could be
held Frog camp for instance. If you
have agreed upon the dote we will do
alt in our power to arrange the work
and make the conditions as agreeable
as, they can be made for those attend

air patrol this stimmtr, believes
Nelson P. Macduff, supervisor of
the Cascade national forest.
"It was thought for awhile that
the appropriation was tor n'r pa
trol throughout the country," said
Mr. Macduff, "but the measure
specifically reads for the north
west, bo It virtually settles the fact
that Oregon forests will get the
patrol."
Mr. Macduff was asked for tenta
tive estimates on the cost of oper
ating tbe patrol during; the coming
year, which he based upon figures
compiled by Lieutenant Lloyd Bur
nett, commander of the patrol last
year. The expenses for conduct
ing; the patrol for the summer to
taled 14000. In his estimates Mr.
Macduff figured the patrol would
tart from June 1 to June 15.

The line 'is being run in order to

at O. A. C. a point to start from in
their work of cruising timber and
making topographic maps in that lo
cality. It is believed the work should
be finished within JO days, according
to Nelson F. Macduff, supervisor.
Edmunson Jurors
Considering Case

case of Leon Edmunson being tried on
a liquor charge bod not yet returned
a verdict. The closing arguments were

son is on trial on an appeal of bis

PARCHEN IS SENTENCED
A sentence of. four months in the
county jail and a fine of $500 was
given Frank Parchen when be ap
peared before Judge G. F. Skipworth
today. Parchen was convicted by a
Jury Monday on a charge of trans
portation of liquor. Judge Skipworth
In giving sentence stated that Parchen
had already spent two months in jail
and for that reason his sentence was
cut from six months.
