Due to the "very rotten character of
material encountered, the progress
last night was the slowest on rec
ord," said the official bulletin of those
iu charge of the shaft being dug in an
effort to extricnte Floyd Collins from
a trap in Sand enve. Rain, snow and
colder wentber was experienced dur
ing the night.
Nine and one-half hours were re
quired to complete a three foot 'sec
tion, said the bulletin issued this
morning.
"Four separate and distinct times
when excavations were ready to tim
ber, cave-ins occurred and it is esti
mated that 12 cubic yards were re
mrfvpd in this section aoine.
"The total depth of t-lie shaft is now
54 feet." "

pieces in the path ot his pursuers,
who halted to pick up the glittering

The escape was the climax of an
attack by a band of a dosen robbers

Of Klamath Murder
