Or., waa held up today at about I p. m. by four men who obtained $500 and fled In an auto toward Portland, according to reports to the po lice here. ' The robbers fled toward Port land in a largo touring car, bear ing Oregon license 189-697. rolice records show that this li cense was issued to W. If. Iiayden, B. P. D. Box 500, MUwaukie, for use on a small car. Authorities believe that the rob bers stole either the Harden mach ine or the license plates and put them on the big car which they suy prob nbly waa stolen. Portland authorities were asked to wutch for the bandits and deputy sheriffs began a petrol of the east and west side highways leading into Port land. Aurora la on the east side highway to Snlcm, about ten miler south of Oregon City. IJulf a dozen city detectives were dispatched to cover city arteries from tin main (Salem roads. Taylor, sheriff .of Lane county, by Byron K. Wheeler of this city. The National Surety com pany and the American Surety com pany are also named as defendants as they are on the bonds of Sheriff Tay lor. The suit is brought as a result of the arrest of Wheeler here Satur day, October 18, and his incarceration In Uie Lane county jail until Saturday, October 25, when he was released. heeler was picked up here on suspicion of huving tben implicated in a bank robbery at Hoseville, CM. This charge was dropped within a few days and officials at Woodland, Lai.. sent word that they believed that Wheeler was a man wanted thero for bank robbery. The California bank officials were here last Saturday hut tbey declared that Wheeler was not the man wanted. He was then releas ed. Wheeler in his complaint asks for damages of $20,000 for false im prisonment; $20,000 for loss of his good name and reputation; and $10,- 000 for being deprived of association with his fninily for the period he was in jnil. After making the run out to Thirteenth and Jefferson, the firemen found no fire, and later someone called W. K. Nusbaum and said the fire was at Fourteenth and Jefferson. Another run waa made, and no blaze found. A flue fire at Twenty-third and Al der also took the dexartment on a trip this morning. Amateur Actors to Try Real Theatres LONDON, Oct. 20. OP) London's 20,000 amateur actors will try tbia winter to get into the professional class. The 300 societies to which the amateura belong have banded to gether and rented a West End the atre where they will atage the best they can produce. , They will open the "season" about the first week in November with a gala performance organized by many different societies. Afterwards the societies will each take over the the atre for a week and, should any of the, productions prove popular, ar rangements will be made to produce them at another theatre. American Methods ERIVAN, Armenia, Oct. 29 UP) American methods of cotton-growing are being introduced into Armenia. A new cotton factory equipped with modern American mnchinery has just been completed in Krivan. At the present time more than 40.000 acres of cotton are under cultivation. This is 40 times greater than the acreage under cultivation in 1021. The Armen ian government expects this year to produce 30,000,000 pounds of raw tot ton.
