For a number of yeara, wax pod ded beans had the call among gar deners, but of late yeara slnco tha Kroen podded varieties have been brought to such a high state, of quality and atrlnglessnoss, thoy are mora than holding their own with tha wax beana, Hiring boana, as at present grown, are an American vegetable, the Keeney family of Leroy, N. T., having originated a majority of the varieties now In commerce. To them we owe the Strlngless Oreen l'od In Its Im proved forms, one of the staples of beandom. As to varieties, it Is usually con ceded that the round-podded aorta provide the better quality bean, al though several modnrn flat-poddud varletlea aeem to refute this claim. U la probably true of tho older sorts. Strlngless Green Pod In some of Its forma and Bountiful are rivals for the most desirable early green bean for the garden. Early Hod Valen tine Is olose to them, but In Its older form Is stringier. However, the string bean has bean Improved out by careful selection, long fellow, a round podded, la a mld aeason bean that you can't go wrong In planting. Full Measure and Hefugee are standard late or main crop varieties. Wardwell's Kidney Wax, a fine bean especially In tha middle west, Is a standard wax type. Davis Kidney Wax, Hound l'od Kldnoy Wax and the flat podded New Kld- . itrav a flr.t class vartollns that cannot furnish the basis of a mistake In planting.
