This pathway of life la the path
way of true common sense, and
true common sense Is the sense
common to Ood and His man. It Is
the sense that will become mora
and mora common as men grow
mors snd rnore In spiritual under,
standing: It Is the sense that makes
a man the master of himself and
of all circumstances.
I ask. you: Is It eommon sense
to obey the beliefs of fear, super
stition, and Ignorincs, which re
sult In disease, discord, and deathT
la It common sense to believe that
the earth Is flat or that tho sun
revolves around it Just because the
senso of sight so testifies? Would
It he common senso to bellsve that
the clock In your room Is not tick
ing plainly because your ears do
not always hear ill Or would It
be common sense to say you are
not wearing ..clothes because you
do not always feel them on youT
Ts It common sense to walk by sight
and not by faith aa Paul admon
ished, or Is It common sense to give
up solving sny big problem just
becsuse ths material senses do not
comprehend It? Then neither Is It
common sense to accept the mate
rial teatlmony about disease and
pain Just becsuse the lying mate'
rial senaos say there la life and
sensation In matter. Can mindless
matter feel pain, or Is It thought
that feels It? If It Is not the thought,
then why do doctors stupefy the
thought with an opiate to lessen
the psln?
The question of healing disease
or sin Is, aa Mrs. Eddy sums it up,
the queatlon of the correct govern
ment of the body. It Is the great
question of control or right re
alstance. Shall the material body
control man, or shall man govern
and control the body and all Its
beliefs? This vlrtuoUly sneans:
Hhall man control matter, or shall
Inert and mindless matter control
man? You see a snaka In a dream;
but when you wake up and soe
only a table, the snake ceases to
alarm you. It Is Just so with tha
beliefs about matter and the mate
rial body. We should wako to soe

now.1 -
Christian Science Is becoming uni
versally accepted, and Is doing Its
great healing ana reacmpuva wora
hecauee of Its correct teaching about
Qod and man. Christian Helenas
awakens the thought to under
stand a God who is ever present,
nractlcal. and orovable. and to
man who Is obedient to God's na
ture and government, a man who
Is like his creator In "other words,
who refloats God. God and man
ir. ihovn to ba not corporeal, lim
ited, and erring, but are proved to

Ood la Hplrit, AlMnall. the one
Father-Mother Mind, the one nd
only creator or parent of man, who
Is God'e spiritual idea, the perfect
likeness or child of God. '
Having shown that thoughts are
things, and that matter Is mindless.
harmless, and Unreal, Christian Sci
ence takes the next step and shows
that there le a right thought re
sistance and a wrong thought re-
stetanoe, a rlgnt control, and a
thought control whloh is decidedly
evil and harmful. It shows that
realatanue, to be oorroctlve and
healing, must have behind It the
unlimited power of the divine Mind,
and not have behind it the limited
Influonoe of the eo-called material
mind or human will. The human
will, based on the belief that life,
aubstance, and intelligence are In
matter. Is selfish, blind, aggressive,
and la capable of doing all evil.
Such thoughts are the very oppo
site of the unselfish ana purs
thoughts of Truth, Life, and Love.
Christian Pctence snows tnat tne
alck and the alnner cannot be really
healed by superficial methoda, and
therein It proves Its great mission
and vitality. It provea that faith
In material methods merely lulls
to sleep or covers over the under
lying error. Thie error ts alwaya
montal,' and whtla It may be tem
porarily quieted, it Is not destroyed
until the false sense of life and
pleaaura In matter Is overcome.
Then the liability of repetition or
relapse of the error is removed.
This Is how Christian science proves
Itsslf to be the Holy Comforter or
Bplrlt of truth foretold by Jesus,
by holding out the hsnd of 00m
plete hope end healing to all suf
ferers, Including tnose who are
said to be beyond
