tmd of all-steel eoustruetiou, even to the
frninework. This new bmly gives the ciir
its beauty and distinctiveness, while nt
the-Kame time there is greater durability
ond comfort as well. The lower edge of
depressed belt which extends around
the body and is carried through the hood
nnd radiator further sets off the attract
ive body. Hues.
1 he new one-niece, rnin-nroof wind
shield gives clear and unobstructed view
to the driver and is a (piality feature as
sociated heretofore with cars of much
higher price, fowl lights in the corners
of the windshield base further enhance
Attractiveness nnd finished appearance
tbat characterizes the car.
Another convenience is the new type
quick-action cowl ventilator, which in
regulated by pulling up or down on a
handy lever that extends below the cen
ter of the instrument board. The storm :
curiums, wnicn open with tne doors, are
closer titling Deoiuse tne etiees are
bound on three sides by steel rods.
The wheelhsse is 112 inches. The built-
in thief-proof transmission look reduces I
the theft: insurance cost to Light Six j
owners from 1" to 20 per cent.
The lines of the Gypsy top ure in bar-
mony with the body. The one-piece rear !
curtain has a large rectangular window. 1
Tires are Hlx-i inches and non-skid on all
wheels. Ten-inch deep seat cushions are
upholstered in genuine leather. i
The chassis of t ho 1023 series Tjght
Six remains unchanged in general design.
The six-cylinder, 40 horsepower, motor,
.'t 1-Sy4 1-2 inches, is suspended at three
points, nnd is of an improved L-hed
type with inclined valves, cylinders cast
cnbloc integral with the upper half of
the crankcuse, detachable cylinder head,
and completely macliiued combustion
chambers.
The crankshaft nnd crankshaft bear
ings are unusually large. The crankshaft
W in exact balance at all speeds. Connect
ing rods are of the two-bolt type and 10
inches long an unusual length for a 4Vi
inch stroke. The crankshaft and connect
ing rods are machined on all surfaces, a
3rnctiee fottnd in no other moderate
priced car yet produced. This insures ex
act balonce and uniform weight of re
ciprocating nnd rotating parts, and re
sults in a remarkable smoothness, quiet
iiestt'of operation, and freedom from vi
bration at nil speeds. J
Valves are inclined toward the center
of the cylinder at an angle of 20 degrees.
This aids- the free passage of gases
and from the cylinders, making possible ,
a more compact nnd symmetrical comhus- I
tiou chamber and in addition rendering
the whole valve operating mechanism
more accessible. The valve mechanism i
consists of a bell-crank lever with ro-fler
fnntnH- t(T-1he cam. nnd with adjusting
screw to the valve stem. The hell-crank,
lever gives a maximum valve nit iroin u
minimum cam lift and insures quicker
opening and better timing.
