Mrs. C. E. Johnson of Stayton and
-'' The Boys' and Girls' Aid society of
Oregon was incorporated in the year
1880, since which time It has receiv
ed nearly 40U0 children. These
children come from all parts of the
state and ns can be seen by the last
annual report four-fifths of the cases
came from the county of Multnomah.
Were it not for the officers of the
society, who are making this their
life work, many cases of neglect,
abuse and abandonment of heartless
parents or guardians would be over
looked, but the society has detailed
investigators in the field whose busi
ness it is to watch children placed
out in family homes In their district,
and bring before the proper authori
ties cases pf abuse of children. It Is
as much ail institution of Lane coun
ty as the county poor farm, the hos
pital or any other county institution,
and as It depends in part on charity,
it is hoped that the visitors to the
fair on Friday will remember It is
"tag day" for the society, and will
ingly donate their mite toward the
maintenance and future welfare of
the dependent and delinquent child
ren of Lane county.
