MORE SEWERS WANTED
IN SOUTHEASTERN -PART
OF THE CITY
A petition signed by over a hun
dred property ownerB in the south
eastern part of tho city was recently
circulated, asking the council to pro
vide more sewers for that district.
It was intended to present It to the
council in time, if possible, so that
the voters might have a voice in the
matter, but it is now too late to sub
mit it at the elector on April 3rd.
The petition reads as follows:
"To tho city council of Kugene:
Referring to your recent .ordinance
providing: for two large trunk sew
ors, the bonds for these lo bo voted
upon by the citizens of Eugeno in
April, we, the undersigned citizens
of tlie southeastern part of Eugene,
residing between 12th and 18th
streets and between Alder and Wil
lamette streets, respectfully petition
the city council of Eugene to include
the southeastern part of Eugene in
the contemplated construction of a
largo trunk sewer, continuing to the
west limits of the city and emptying
inlo the river below town, tho exact
location of the whole to be determin
ed by oxpers, but to be as central as
possible to benefit the largest num
ber of residents.
"The se-.vers as at present con
structed on East 13th, 1 4th streets,
elc, are inadequate, owing to their
small size and lack 'of fail, and get
badly congested after a few hours of
rain, causing toilets to overflow and
