Southern PaUflc Is closing all op
tions taken for rights ot way be
tween Coos Bay and Eureka three
years ago and is paying cash for the
land.
For several days It has been
known that the deals of this charac
ter were being transacted and it is
now definitely ascertained that the
Harrlman system expects to pur
chase the entire rigbt of way for the
coast line extending from San Fran
cisco to Coos Bay connecting with
Drain on the Shasta route. This Is
the route which Harrlmann placed
to eliminate the big ihaul up the Sis
kiyou mountains and which will give
him practically a water level road
from San Francisco to Portland.
The purchase of this right of way
indicates only one thin the early
commencement of active construc
tion work on the route proposed.
