The candidates in the districts out
side of Eugene are especially active,
and every mail brings evidence of the
effective work they are doing, letters
containing coupons having been re
ceived from twenty different candi
dates in this morning's mail. Most
of these express a determination to
win the 5000 extra vote coupon,
which will be Issued to every con
testant who has a total n' not less
than 20,000 votes on New Year's
day. it is a big otter and one that
any contestant may win by a little
well-directed effort during the next
week. . .
Remember that this is going to be
the finest trip you ever took. The
Guard guarantees that every possible
arrangement will be made to enhance
the pleasure of the visit to Seattle,
regardless of expense. The nine
young ladles who win will never re
gret the effort it cost them, but on
the other hand, it will always be a
source of satisfaction and gratifica
tion to themselves and their friends
who assisted them in the campaign.
The principal thing the contestants
should bear in mind is that it will
not do to get discouraged, but to
keep working steadily until the last
count of votes is made..-- It is not
an occasional spurt, that counts in the
end, but the steady, systematic work.
Another candidate may lead by a few
thousand votes, but that may be over
come by only a few subscriptions,
new or old, for the daily and weekly.
