wnicn -New ork annually gives to
bicycle racing begins tonight in Mad
ison Garden, with the usual Interna
tional championship meet. This
preliminary affair, however, Is mere
ly a cocktail to what the appetite of
the lovers of bicycling for the annual
six-days' grind, which will be start
ed at one minute past midnight to
morrow night.
While cycling ns a sport has stead
ily declined in public favor for a de
cade and more, this six-day survival
of the good old times seems to have
lost none of It popularity. Thousands
turn out each year to witness the
event and some of the devotees have
been known to remain in the garden
for two and three days at a time.
The list of entries this year Is cal
culated to furnish some good sports.

The athletic council of the Univer
sity will decide noxt Saturday wheth
er or not the O. A. C.-Oregon game
will be played tn Portland In 1909,
unloss some change la made In the
plans of the council. Unlvesslty stu
dents, prominent In coiiega politics,
freely state that the council will not
permit the game to e carried again
from the campuses of the two lnstl-
tuttons.
KlRiires have been made, which
calculate that all of the student mem
liers of the council will vote to keep
the game out of Portland, two of the
faculty members, and at least one of
the Alumni members.
