VEATCH BUILDING
BEING TORN DOWN
New Modern Block Will Be
Built At An Approximate
Cost of $6000
Cottage Crove enterprise again
comes to the front Ihls week. On
Tuesday Oliver Veatch let tho con
tract for a fine new building to Gto.
Iea. of this city, to occupy the slto
of the building recently destroyed by
firo. workmen are now at work
tearing out the charred tnsides of
the present structure, and as soon as
possible will take the walls down.
Mr, Veatch tells us his first Inten
tion to repair the building has given
way to the Idea of an entirely new
structure more modernly built, and
of stronger walls. We are Informed
that the estimate on the coat runs
well Into six thousand dollars.
The work will be rushed from start
to finish. It is hoped to have the
now building up and ready for occu
pancy by the first of the new year,
but progress In building may lie ham
pered by the wonther. The now
building will bo 70 foot deep, nnu
will set back five feet from Its pres
ent frontngo. The front will be en
tirely modern, with a fine plalo glasB
disomy window. A side window is
coiiteninlated. which will add greatly
to Its value to Its occupant us a means
of display. The building will be
two stories high, and a warehouse of
brick extending 20 feet In tho rear is
also contemplated. Another sightly
building will thus add to the beauty
of Main street, and not only be a
credit to Its owner, but to tbe town
as well. Western Oregon.
