Trlbune of October 26 contains the
following account of the death of Col
onel S. P. Sladden, of Eugene:
S. P. Sladden, who recently nrrlted
In this city from Eugene, Orpjfon.
and who has been dangerously ill
since, passed away yesterday after
noon at 1:40 o'clock at the Imlte of
his daughter, Mrs. E. IJ. Hiffgess.
Mr. Slndden's death is the result of
septic poisoning caused by decayed
teeth, complicated with vilvular
heart trouble.
Sidney P. Sladden was boi l Janu
ary 22, ISM, at llerne PufKonuge,
county of Kent, England, nd was
confirmed In the Canterbury cathe
dral. He was united In Anarrtage
with Harriet B. Pocock December 24,
1S55, at .Muscatine, Iowa. Deceased
leaves a wife and three children

cago; Mrs. Edward I), lurgess, of I
W ebster City, and Sidney p. Sladden,
of New York City. AlsoAwo grand
children, Mrs. James AJ Iluell and
Miss lieulah Sladden. 11 of these
were present when the deceased pass
ed away. Father Sluldcn called
each one of them to his bedside, and
after embracing and Ilsslng them
was ready to go.
Mr. Sladden retired from the
wholesale grocery business in Chics
go In 1S81 and removed to Webster
Cltv, where he resided until 1KS5.
During that time Mr.land Mrs. Slud
den's daughter and iimily, Mr. and
Mrs. Samuel Nelsoi. made their
home here. Mr. Nelsct being engaged
in the lumber buslii-ss; While the
deseased was a resident here he built
the home now occupied by C. A.
Brennecke and fnmly. and also the
residence Just east if tl;e BrennecJe
home. I
The funeral wh held this arter
noon at 4 o'clock at the Burgass
home on Wilson ivenue, conducted
by Rev. J. O. Thresh, of the Congre
gational church.
The remains w11 be taken to Chi
cago this evenitf-'. accompanied by

Mills Lumber Co., by John Daly

probably tho one stolen from the S.
P. depot In Eugene a few days ago.

Identified, If possible. Tho contents
of tho suit case are costly, consisting
among other things, of a tailor-made
suit and three silk waists. The gar
ments hail been little disturbed, the
thief evidently deciding that there
was nothing in sight that he could
use or dispose of to ad vantage.
