It was Announced this morning at
the high school assembly that smok
ing among the students must be
cut out. This Is an action that the
hoard has taken up with the city au
thorities and are now determined to
see that this form of dissapatlon
among the high school boys must
cease. It seems that cigarette smok
ing Is indulged In by tho younger
studentB to nn alarming degree, the
school authorities only recently be
coming cognizant of the groat ex
tent of the practice.
Steps will probably soon bo taken
to Induce the city council to miss
some kind of prohibitive measures
and strong efforts will be made be
tween now and" the tt:::e of the meet
ing of the next legislature to have a
bill framed nnd passed prohibiting
thS sale of the "coffin nails" in this
state. Siii a law Is now in force In
Washington sifiiS, j
Reports have also reached the '
school authorities that a certain few
of the high school boys are in the :
habit of becoming intoxicated almost
every Saturday night. This practice
will be stopped, it is declared, or the:
offending students may be expelled, i
I'ross Country Knee.
A cross-country race to be hold
about Christmas is being planned by !
the distance men of the high school
track team. It is probable that a.
medal or cup of some kind will be
given to the winner.
( lass Football.
The Seniors of tho high school ;
have accepted the challenge of the
Freshmen for a football game, first ,
team men to be excluded, and Intend
to "key them down." The same will
probably be played some tlmo this
week.
