that he take a girl from the orphan
asylum to keep house and for com
pany. The deacon started for the city next
morning and returni In the evening
with Qke orphan. Her name was
Ruth. Jhe deacon liked her at first

she was sAown over the house and

have It ready, and lie deacon's heart
swelled up as she called to him:

she has come to live with you."

The deacon overslept, and it was 7
before he got out of bed and went
downstairs. There, was no one about.
He knocked at the daughter's door,
but got no answer. Qe went outside
to look for her, and, finding nothing, he

rroom.

"You should haQ had breakfast all
ready an hour ago."

The deacon got breakfast, and &)ss
