New York. October 6. John D. ;
Rockefeller does not care to pose as ,
a collector of antiques. At least tlnsi
is the conclusion arrived at by the;
custom authorities at this port, wo
todav put up for sale among a var
led assortment of other articles a ,
sword said to have been worn by OI-1
iver Cromwell and which the Stand-1
ard Oil magnate could have had by j
imvinir the ilutv on the weapon. I
Some months ago the sword was;
consigned to M Rockefeller by an j
Englishman, an admirer of Mr.
Rockefeller. In a short note attacnea
to the sword the sender said the relic
was vouched for as having belonged
to the great Commoner, and that on
ly pecuniary reasons Influenced her
in disposing of an heirloom of such
priceless worth. When the sword
reached the Custom House Mr Rocke
feller was communicated with, but he
refused to either accept the sword
or pay the accruing duties and as a
consequence the weapon was offered
for sale at ppullc auction touay ij
gether with the other unclaimed articles.
