the brush. They were indulging In
a sort of boxing match, and Mr.

for several minutes, when, he con
cluded to take a shot, waiting, how
ever, until they stood In line. Jlls

and the hunter thought for an In
stant that his shot had gone wild.

Vesuvius mines ran away and a dan
gerous accident was averted by a
small margin. The stage, horses be-

and coming to a turn tho horses ran
off the road, overturning the rig and

numerous bruises. Miss Maggie
llriind was returning to her home,
and C. T. Long, of the ilraham hotel,
was returning from a fey days out

of the horses was badly cut, but on
the whole it wus a very fortunate ac
cident. .

Hev. A. J. Armstrong and family
arrived in this city Saturday from
Lakcvlew, where .Mr. Armstrong has
been pastor of the M. 10. church for
several years. The family returned
to Cottngo (.rove by their own pri
vate conveyance, coming leisurely

pleiisaut and enjoyable. Owing to
Mis. Armstrong's poor health Hov.
Armstrong found It necessary to re

Madrid. Sept. 23. The horrible
murders laid at the door of Dr. Ag
ostino Tortosa. Mayor of Alarcon,
is charged with killing several per
mni who have died under extraor-
dlnar circumstances. Ilia brother-in-
law and mother-in-law perished by
suffocation, and it is declared that he
placed them In an unventllated room
and caused It to be filled with dan
derous gases. Three other persons
are alleged to have been suffocated
liv the doctor In his fatal chamber. A
young and handsome patien t who
consulted him was murdered, the
bodv cut to uleces, and thrown Into a
torrent and the mayor Is further
said to have killed his landlord by
piercing his skull with a pin.

Delinquent taxpayers will tnke no
tice that delinquent taxes will not
bo advertised us heretofore; under
a law passed by the last legislature
of this state taxes that are delin
quent after the expiration of six
months from the first date of such
delinquency may be paid by any one
demanding to pay same and a certif
icate of delinquency will be Issued to
such party.
Section 37 of said law, in part,

advised that If they hnvo not paid at
least one-hiilf of their taxes on or
before the first Monday In April thnt
