An adjourned session of the cltv
council was held last night at which
a number of mutters were acted up
on. The matter of tho Injunction suit
against the city by J. It. Sellers to re
restiniln the city and the Warren Con
struction Company from operating
the rock quarry at the west end of
the bote was brought up and the
city attorney directed to look after
the city's Interests In the matter.
The ordinance permitting the ce
ment sidewalk along the I'niverslty
campus on Kast Eleventh street six
Inches above the regular grade was
passed.
The plat of the Hill Crest addition
to the city was accepted.
Tho fire and water committee was
directed to confer with the wnter
compnny with Instructions to have
all three-Inch tnuins on West Eighth
street whom the pavement Is to be
laid replaced with four-Inch mains.
The application for an advance In
the wages of the assistant fire team

red. The city engineer was Instructed
to make a survey and estimate the

Hazing In a mild form began at
the I'nlverslty last night when fifty
or sixty freshmen were rounded up

stunts, varied and too numerous to J
mention. The freshles were first
lined up and started down town on al
lock-step march, with their trousers,
rolled up to their knees and with I
their clothes arranged In other fan-i
tastic shapes and ways. The proces-l
sion was led by a very fresh fresh-!
man In a barrel and In that manner
the sophs conducted them to the bus-1
Iness streets, where they attracted a!
great deal ot attention. The under
classmen were then taken to the base-1
ball park at the south end of Wlllam-1

ment of the sophomores. There was
no roughness and no one was hurt
It was a night of tun for the sophs
and of surprises and new experiences
for the freshles.
KILLED WOMAN
AND BLEW OFF
HIS OWN HEAD
Vallejo, Cal., Sept. 22. Mrs. Hen
ry Mangus, wife of an electrician at
the Mare Island navy yard, was shot
and killed by Charles Friedberg, who
then blew off the top of his head. In
fatuation for the woman and jeal
ousy of her husband was the motive.
Friedberg roomed with the Man
gus family until two weeks ago, when
his objectionable conduct caused
Mangus to order him from the house.
Neighbors say he was a frequent vis
itor to the house during the absence
of Mangus. but It is said, however.
