Having concluded to retire from
the lumber business I offer for sale,
lease or will exchange for Eugene or
Portland income property, my saw
mill, sawmill site, booms, lumber
sheds, office, planers, dry kilns and
an tools connected with the business.
Mill located at river bridge In the
centre of Kugene city, east and west,
and only three blocks from tbe S. P.
It. It.
This Is a fine opportunity for some
one to go into the lumber business,
as there Is always a big local domund
for all slubwood, sawdust, shavings,
cull lumber, as well as the better
grades of lumber. Logs are cheap,
labor cheap, lumber high.
A good mlllman can make this
property pay for Itself in two years,
and If ho will operate day and night
In one year. Greatest opportunity in
thlB part of Oregon for a mill man;
best located mill In the state. Capac
ity, 20,000 feet in ten hours.
When you have this mill you are
at the market. Planer and dry kiln
everything noeded to make lots of
lumber and lots of money. Qlve this
your early attention If Interested in
a lumber proposition. I am sure you
cannot beat It in the state. The
quicker you act the surer you are of
making your fortune, for this Is a
onance in a liretlme.

COUNTRY CLUB
AND LIVESTOCK.
MEET BEGINS
Guard Special Service.
Portland. Sept. 21 The Portland
Country Club and Livestock Asso
ciation begins Its initial meeting to
day. The exhibit of livestock sur
passes that shown at the Lewis and
Clark exposition, and the races will
be the best ever !;?ssed here. The
great mile track Just omp!eted at a
enst nf 127.000 the. immense barns
and steel frame aropKheatre. give
the grounds and surroundings an ap
pearance of solidity ana permaneu.
The track Is considered the best
drained that has been built In this
part of the United States. There Is
a steam railroad line Into the grounds
In addition to a splendidly equipped
electric line In fact, the latter has
been tested and found capable of
handling forty-five cars at one time.
Together these lines will relieve the
ground sofs even thousand people
within the first fifteen minutes after
a meeting.
No event has taken place In the
last year that -will be more beneficial
to the Pacific Northwest than the vis
It of the delegates In attendance up
on the National convention of the
American Association - of Traveling
Passenger Agents. These men have
traveled through Washington, spent
three days thoroughly investigating
Seattle, where they held their con
vention, visited interesting points on
the sound; then they came to Port
land, where they disbanded, going to
many polntB in Oregon. Washington
and down through California. The
traveling passenger agents meet
thousands of people every year, and
Influence a vast amount of travel.
The Missouri river valley Is one of
tho most successful hog sections of
the United States. Today one of the
most popular stock-fattening roods
In the Missouri river region Is a mix
ture of alfalfa meal and sugar beet
pulp, which is produced In Colorado.
Advices recently received from that I
state show that numerous new mills
are being erected, and certainly the
Pacific Northwest should give this
industry every (possible encourage
ment, and this is particularly true
since the great international concerns
like Swift & Company and others
hnve decided to locate upon the Pa
cific coast and are now spending mil
lions of dollars In building their
plant at Portland. A good reliable
fattening food equal to corn would
make this section of the United
States the very richest portion of our
great republic.
The Hood River Applegrowers' As
sociation has just closed a contract
for 80.000 boxes of the growing
crop, and now have under discussion
the sale of 150,000 additional boxes.
This will be good news to all the
fruit-growing sections of the Northwest.

One of the most successful plays
of the present season is "The Little
Prospector, a comedy-drama which
comes to the Eugene theatre on
Thursday, September 24. ' The Lit
tie Prospector" was written esmi-
clally for "Chic" Perkins by a mas
ter hand In stage-craft, and the lines
and "business" fit her like a kid
glove. The character of the self
qissertive, Independent, yet lovuble
daughter of a degenerate physician
Is Interpreted with a charm that
wins the audience nnd sets the gal
lery gods In a furore, and the real
critic is the gallery god. he Is honest
to himself and the players and he
won't stand for phoney goods.
"Chic" Perkins Is surrounded with
n group of theatrical atelites that
are an important factor In the suc
cess of the new play, nnd give the
magnetic, little star excellent support,
which causes "Tho Little Prospector"
to run as smooth as the waters of a
mountain brook. There Is an ele
ment of pathos In the drama that
Is not overworked, and tho comedy
Is not of the "slap-stick" order, but
Is clean, refined, yet the situations
never fall to bring roars of hearty
laughter. There Is an Indescribable
charm about "The Little Prospector"
as Interpreted by "Chic" Perkins
that makes the play a success, for
It tells the story of human emotions
In which love, hato and romance are
skillfully blended by a playwright
of international fame. Success from
a financial, artistic standpoint has
crowned the efforts of the strenuous
magnetic "Chic" and the little star
deserves tho laurel of Fame.
