i discovered a cleverly arranged infer-1
nal machine In the mails. Mad the'
; governor opened It In the usual way :
there Is little doubt but what It would
have killed hlni. The governor's mull
has been carefully watched since the
recent crusade against t'he violators
of the law at Atlantic City.
I That the would-be assassin had a
grim sense of humor was evidenced
ly the following messtmc written on
a bit of paper to the governor:
' "Please notify us promptly of any
change In your address," while un
rulier read. "You will know me bel-
ter after we are acquainted."
Another line by which it Is be
, lieved the sender sought to give the
linpresslo tithat the machine was sent
by a foe of constitutional government
instead of a personal enemy of tbe
g.ivcrunr, read :
"Any gnu against this rotten gov
ernment." Governor Fort would not discuss
the matter in any way, but It Is
learned today that officials of the
Ipostollice at Philadelphia will here-
alter officially scrutinize nil pack
ages of mall matter reaching the
I'hiladelphia office before posting to
the governor.
