Eugene has been able to gather in
many features belonging to up-to-dateness,
but It looked for the past
several months as if the mnch-irnssin-
ed-ahout dlrectolre garment, which I
created a small-sized panic upon its
first appearance on the streets of
gay I'aree, then London, New York,
Chicago and the West, would be kill
ed off before it arrived in Eugene.
It dropped in last night when Miss
Lillian Haywood appeared in such a
garment in various stages of the
character of "Angelina -McKeage, late
of comic opera," This being its first
burst in Eugene, the audience con
ducted itself as best is could. The
appearance being a surprise, there
were few stou watches in the house
to exactly gauge the length of time
I the audience held its breath. Miss
Haywood bore up well under the
equipment and both In personality
anil acting gracefully carried out her
part In presenting the latest note of
Dame Fashion.
