by the attendants Tor conveying the
body to the morgue, when the house
surgeon happened to pass through
the ward and the nurse informed him
of the death of his patient. After a
few moments the doctor resolved to
trv an experiment for resuscitation
arid accordingly Injected one tenth
of a grain of strychnia In his veins,
enough to kill four men. Then he
began the work of artificial respira
tion, moving the arms up and down
and chafing the sides, and was grat
ified a few moments later to notice a
slight return of the pulse and then a
faint flush to the cheeks the man
had literally returned from the dead
and while he only lived for another
twelve hours, the bringing to life of
a man that was to all Intents and
purposes dead Is gratifying and goes
to prove that there Is yet a limit to
be established In the science of medi
cine. Quite anumber of men seem ob
sessed with the Idea that' the votes
of a class, a profession, or a church
can be delivered In bulk. A Cincin
nati doctor is the latest to step Into
the limelight with the claim that the
doctors are all for Taft. Inasmuch as
such a stunt has never been pulled
off, we are among those who will
have to be shown.
Railroad managers are supposed
to be very shrewd men, but they are
not showing their wisdom in forcing
the freight rate Issue to the front at
this time, notwithstanding their at
tempt to couple It with the question
of providing work for unemployed
men.
And now a writer is daring enough
to assert that nature la a bigger fa
ker than any man has ever been, and
cites Instances to prove It. If this
sort of. thlg keeps up, it may be nec
essary to lay aside the study of Af
rican hunting for a time and take up
the big stick.
John D. Rockefeller ought to and
probably does thank those Ohio
brewers who are abusing him for
contributing to the Anti-Saloon
League, even if they do charge that
league members of the legislature
are owned by the Standard Oil.
All we have tosay of this story al
leging that lightning photographed a
woman on the skin of a man's back
is that If he Is married and the pic
ture doesn't look like his wife, he's
got a Job of explaining that will nev
er be finished.
In asking for their coin, Mr. Dry
an showed that he was not afruld to
put his popularity with farmers to a
severe test, and if he gets it he'll
have a double satisfaction the mon
ey and the laugh on those who said
he wouldn't.

wnen it is obvious that a country
"ripe for self-government" always
gets it, even if it has to take it by
iorce:
Tom Watson needs the advertlsinc

portant to him he's getting it
light along. This is only a little one,
but you are welcome to it, Tommy,
and "every litle bit helps," you
know.
An epndemic of race trouble seems
to be sweeping over a large area.
In a single newspaper serious trouble
of the kind was reported from New
lork, New Jersey, Illinois, Indiana.
Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Hon. Carroll U. Wright says: "it
is the easiest thing in the world to ar
raign society." Wrong, Mr. Wright;
" Is r.iucii easier society to do
foil things to be arraigned for.
This news note that suys an Eng
lish nobleman arrived in New York
as a steerage passenger is, we take it.
merely a sly way of advertising a ti
tle for sale at bargain prices.
This menagerie man who claims to
have a method of making wild ani
mals harmless is making a noise like
trying to get a piece of that African
hunting money.
If "rest is a beautifler." we pro

Fat All My Life and How 1 (Jot ltiil
nf It
First a captivating plumpness be
gins to steal upon a woman in her
twenties. Plumpness is followed bv
oh, horrors fatness. Then, alas.
comes tne cliin that Is double and the
comical lumbering waddle of the over
fat. Flue sarcasm to tell such a wo
man to exercise. Why not counsel
flyliiB? She is as able to do the one
as the other. It's another keen cut
to suggest dieting. When ladles are
just so fat they haven't an ounce of
will power or energy to spare for ex
tras dust living is hard enough
work for them.
What then? Are these unfortu
nates condemned to be fat for life?
No, believe it or not; a simple home
remedy, easy to get at a drug store,
will take that fat off and keep It off.
Listen: M ounce Marmola, H ounce
Fluid Extract of Cascara Aromatic
and 3 Vfe ounces Syrup Simplex mixed
at home and taken In teaspoonful
doses after meals and at bedtime will
take off as much as a pound a day in
sonic cases. Get the Marmola in seal
ed packages you are sure It Is fresh
in that way take the mixture n
month and you'll see. The fat seems
to drop off and leave nice, smooth,
firm flesh, while the health and com
plexion Improve wonderfully. 1

Advertisements, Like Clocks,
Should Keep Running
A store's advertisements tell
the people what Is "dolus" at
that store what is new, what
is inviting, why today is a good
time to visit the store. People,
look for the ads to tell them
these things just as naturally as
they would look at a clock to
tell the time.
Sometimes a dock does not,
run sometimes a store's ad
does not run. A "rnn-dowu"
clock or ad are about equally
unsatisfactory, unserviueable,
misleading.
Curious thing about It Is that
n merchant who would think it
; absurd to have a run-down" or
! out-of-repair clock will, soine
. times, deliberately let his ad
; slop running. It's not wise, nor
, good business, nor defensible
1 on any known Riounds but it
is sometimes done.
