IN LANE COUNTY

British Columbia and in different

! far escaped anything serious in that
j line. As far as can be learned no
fires to amount to much are burning
in iane county rorests. Inquiry at
the Booth-Kelly Lumber Company's
office this afternoon elicited the In
formation that noe of their timber
is burning and no fires are near any
of their holdings. The Guard's cor
respondent at Lowell reported a num
ber of small blazes in that vicinity a
couple of days ago. but they are evi
dently under control, as nothing more

Baxter Young has recently pur

Mr. Williams drove him and his wife

back made the trip in 45 minutes.
The distance is 18 miles and the
roads are 'very rough. This is a

E. E. Dyer left here today for

son ran away from home
some time ago and has just been lo
cated on Coos Bay. The boy first
went to California, and be was heard
of at several different points in that
state, but the officers were unable to
hold him or refused. A few days ago
the chief of police wired that the boy
was there, so he left today to bring
him back home. The two will enjoy
a hunt, however,, before they return
home. Sir. Dyer is a builder, and has
been employed on the new Garrett &
Mitchell building for some time past.

p. m., George 1. Bolton, of North
wood, Iowa, after a years illness
from tuberculosis. He- had been In
Eugene for the past three month,
having come here from Arizona and
Southern California. He was born
at Northwood, Iowa, September 27,
1S72. He leaves a wife and daugh
ter, Gladys, aged nine years, besides
bis mother, who was with him ut the
time of his death, and five brothers
and two sisters, all in the East. Ills
mother has been with him for the
past nine months, traveling In the
South In the hope of benefiting his
health. They arrived In Eugene Just
three months ago yesterday. He
steadily grew worse until death came
yesterday to relieve Mm from bis suf
ferings, lie was a member of the
Masonic order, the Odd Fellows and
Knights of Pythias. Ho was also a
member of the Baptist church at Nor
wood. The funeral will be held at
Gordon's undertaking chapel tomor
row forenoon at 10 o'clock, with In
terment in the I. O. O. F. cemoterv.
Rev. O. C. Wright will conduct tho
services ut tho undertaker's and the
Masons at the grave.
At her home at Fern Ridge, ten
miles northwest of Eugene, Sundav,
August 5, 1908, from a complication
of complaints, Mrs. Eliza Welburn,
aged tiS years. The funeral was held
this forenoon with Interment lu the
Springfield I. O. O. F. cemetery. She
leaves a husbund and several chil
