papers for factories, and after dis
cussion the appropriation asked for

Magazine was ordered devoted, plrto
rlally, to berries and a following
number to either Springfield or Flor
ence. The question of a trout hatchery
was discussed and ordered placed be
fore the general meeting, aa fully re

SALEM CHERRY FAIR
Lane codnty will be well repre
sented at the cherry fair which opens
at Salem tomorrow and continues til
over Saturday. ' The Lane County
Fruit and "Vegetable Growers' Asso
ciation Is preparing the exhibit at
their packing house on Oak street
and will ship down to the capital city
tonight. There will be 30 or 40 box
es of cherries In the exhibit, all neat
ly parktd, and they present a beauti
ful appearance. The work Is under
t!e direction of J. O. Holt, secretary
of the association, which fact alone

merchant, who was recently fined
$500 and sentenced to serve thirty
days In the county jail tor selling li
quor In violation ot the local option
law, today paid his fine and was re
leased from custody, he having serv
ed his thirty-day sentence. This sort
of penalty has had a saultary effect
In doing away with blind pigs in Eu
gene. It Is said that liquor Is now
hard to secure here, although It Is re
ported that two or three of the "pigs"
still exist.
