Herbert Leigh, the well-known
mining engineer, relumed a few
days ago from the Bohemia mines
where he had lieen for several weeks
looking alter Ills properties In the
district to a reporter last evening he
stated that he has leased a part of
Hie Noonday boarding house to the
Mayflower company who put K men
to work on the Noonday road, put
ting It In ahape for the summer' tra
vel. The Mayflower people are put

reduction plant this summer.

REDISTRIBUTING
NATIONAL FOREST
RESERVES OF WEST

Washington. July 1. The second
st'-p in the cotupreiien.-iive plan of re
districting the nati onal forests in the
western states has Just been made by
the president In signing executive or
ders which will change the names and
boundaries of the forests of Oregon.
The only other state la which these
plans have been completed U Idaho,
but it is expected that the work of
redlstric'ir.s in all tua national for
ests states will be Jinished and the
changes announced In the next few
days.
No addition to forest area is in
volved In the plans for redisricting
In any i.f th states of the North
west. The object of the work is to
equalize the areas of administrative
units and to arrange tneir Douuuaneo
in a anrh a manner as to promote
the most efficient and practical ad
ministration of th? forests. It will
enable officers ol- the forest service
to give prompt attention to all fur
eat business and further the Inter
ests and add to the convenience of
stockmen, lunlbermen, rtjners and
all other users of settlers In the na
tional forests. The Oregon Nation
al Forests which will be effected by
this rearrangement In WeBtern Ure
gon are as follows:
The Fremont National Forest will
consist of the southern portion of the
ud Fremont, and all of tne onose
Lake" Forests and Is located In Lake,
ind Klamath counties. This forest
is Irregular In outline and la compos
ed of many segregated areas, the tn
al area of w.-.lch wi'.l be 1.236.90
acres. It will continue to be under
the administration of Supervisor Guy
M. Ingram, with headquarters at
Lakeview, Oregon.
The lifnd formerly Included In the
Bull Kun" and the 'Cascade (')"
Korest, except that portion south of
the Willamette Valley Cascade Moun
tain Wagon Head, covering 1.7SX,
320 acres, will be called the Oregon
Vntlnnat h'nrcst. This forer.t Is lo
cated In Multnomah, Clackamas, Was
co, Marlon, I. Inn, and Crook countieB
and will continue under the adminis
tration of Supervisor Thos. H. Shcr
rard with headquarters' at Portland,
Oregon.
Cascade will continue to be the
name of that portion of tiie eld "Cas
cade" Forest (not Included in the
Fremont I lying between the Will
amette valley and Cascade mountain
Wagon Knnii and the middle folk ol
.he Willamette river and West Di s
huttes river. This forest has tin
area of 1.SI5.120 acres and Is 1i
cpied In Lane, Linn, Crook and Klam
ath counties. It will be administered
by Supervisor C. R Seltz with head
quarters ae Eugene. Oregon.
The fores! now to be ki.own a the
Umpqua wll! embrace 1,898,560 acre1
and will consist of that part of the
Cascade ;8" National Forest
(which has not been includea in the
Fremont) between (he middle fork
of the Willamette river ond the west
Deschuttos river and the Rogue river
and the South Cmpquo river Divide,
also the southern portion of the old
'Umpqua' Forest. It Is located In
Lane, Klamath. Jackson, Coos and
Douglas counties. This forest will
cf.ntlnue to be administered by Su
pervisor 3. 0. Durtrum with head
quarters at Roseburg, Oregon.
The Oregon National Forest will
contain 1.10l!,Si)2 acres and will
consist of 'he i.eiithern portion of the
old "Cascade (SI." th:V Ashland"
and a portion of the "Klamath" and
"Siskiyou" Forests. It is located in
.hickson, Klamath, and Curry coun
ties, Oregon, and Slrtsta county, Cal
ifornia. Acting Supervisor C. A.
Ilurk will 'iduilnister this forest with
hcadqut'-'ors it t Medtord, Oregon.
All of the old "Tillamook" and
"Cmpiiua" e'orests, except tho ;ionth
ern porlloo t,f the old "Cijipqi.H," em
bracing 97.1,9 1 S acres, v ill be known
as the Slus'aw National Forest. Tills
forest is located In Tillamook Lane,
Douglas, Coos. Lincoln. Poik and
Ynmmlll counties; Supervisor A. K.
Cohoon .will administer tins foiest
with headquarters at l.ugene. Oregon
The Forest Service desires to re
duce the area of the ave-age minimis
tratlve nn:u to approximately l.uu.-
000 acres. This was not possible in
all cases as Is shown by the fact that
under the plan of redisricting there
will be 14 1 Supervisors In the United
States who will administer more than
107.000,000 acres of National For

Omaha, Juno 30. Official an
nouncement was made today, that ex
tension work on the Harrlman lines
will begin July 1. where It stopped
several months ago because rf finan
cial unrest which threaten -d the
country. Work will begin on the
Athol Hill cutoff In Colorado, and ex
tension of the branch line up the
North Plntte River from North Platte
to Northport. Large gangs of men
have been sent to both places and
will begin work at once.
Work on the Athol-Borte cutoff
was SU nr cent ronnlei M wh-n work
was stopped, but the .V'rth Platte ex
tension was only fairly started. Work
on both will be completed within a
few months.
