After a hard struggle with their
fast failing nerves, the 'Jarslty Sen
iors have decided to accept the chal
lenge of the Oregon Alumni base
ball team for a gume. The Alumni
were ready and anxious to play Mon-
day afternoon but the Seniors plead
that the field was too wet. It was a
mere excuse and shallow; they were
simply afraid. They hated to go to
certain defeat. But at last, stung
by the taunts of the alumni, the
jokes and jests of the faculty, and
urged by the fair co-eds of the grad
uating class, they have banded them
selves together In what they term a
base ball team.
Five of the Senior team were
made monkeys of by O. A. C. In four
games. Around these five presumed
ball tossers the Seniors unblushlng
ly base their claim to victory. Hus
ton, Paine, Hathaway, Ramp and
Kestley, of the Varsity team, 1908,
are the famous men. Four other
fear stricken and fumble artists have
been rescued irom the co-eds to help
out. They are Floyd Brooke, Roy
Zacharias, Gordon Moores and Wal
ter Moore.
The game will be played at 9:30
tomorrow morning on Klncald field,
which has been put in shape for the
cntest. Spectators can be easily ac
comodated in the bleachers and
grandstands. President Campbell
will umpire the game. A great
crowd la expected to be present.
The game Is so easy that the Alum
ni. have not even been practicing. It
will be a farce from this standpoint.
Horace Kenton, '06, will pitch the
game; Carl McClain, '06; short stop;
GHf fori Brown, '06, first base; Fred
Zelgler, '01, center field; Ray Good
rich, '03, left field; Jack Latourette,
'07, second base; Roy Kelly '07,
catcher; George Hug, '07, right
field; Wlstar Johnson, 07, third
base; Substitutes, C. N. McArthur,
'01. Judge Potter and Judge Harris
well known members of the alumni,
will also act as substitutes.

If we never take time lust to think,
And we oftlme regret the words that

But lias! We have' seen it too late.

Standing with reluctant feet
Where the brook and river meet,
See the sweet girl graduate ,
Brace herself to tackle Fate.
See her In her dimity,
"Plain white lawn or organdie.
Waiting, trembling, sweet and fair,
With a rosebud In her hair,
And an essay in her hand,
Shaking as she takes the stand,
See the blushes come and go,
Soft pink blooms in ftelds of snow;
Listen as she reads the lines
Leading to the fur confines
Of the future which she sees
Dimly through her auguries.
To her school days, ending here.
Pays the tribute of a tear,
And with a smile she turns to meet
The long hard nath before her feet.
She has learned from books that

At its best is only strife.
