A CASE OF AR80X
AT THE GRAND
One of the pictures at the Grand
tonight looks so near like the real
thing that an announcement has to
be made to the audience before it is
shown on the screen not to get scared
as there Is not the least bit of dan
ger. The title of I tis "A Case of
Arson," and in it a good portion of a
town Is burned over and nearly a
hundred shots are exchanged between
the outlaws and the enraged citizens.
The entire program will be found in
another column, and will run for
three nights, with a change Thurs
day night. All seats 10 cents.

until he'd Mulshed bis joti mid got all

Our trouble was that we were In the
:lold, where we hadn't njt.J;til io put
him lu. The tirst time we caught blm
red handed, with memoranda of our
forces on blm, the guard was dead
tired after a twenty-four hour march
ind went to sleep. To got away that
time was easy. We caught hlui and
shut blm up In n bo car on the rail
road track. Ho sawed ft hole In the
bottom of the car. let himself down
ind got past the guard lu the dark
less. Well, we caught him again, though
this time he tried hard enough to make
bis lines, und I wanted' to siring him
right up. The colonel came pretty near
giving me an order to do so, but con
eluded that he'd better get tho gen
eral's, order, and this necessitated our
keepltig him overnight. This time wo
.lecldcd to put blm hi a farmhouse.
We put a guard In the room with lilm
tnd a double guard on tho outside of
:he bouse.
The Yank, besides being slick, was
tlie best looking chap you ever saw
in your life, and he had such u pleas
ant smile that I hated tho loea of put
ting an end to it. There was a half
:rown girl In the bouse, nn awkward,
freckled, red hcaiicd thing that none of
us noticed or considered any element
)f danger. How the spy found a way
3f getting her Interested In him or
whether she did It all without the
tsklng we never found out. Sbo ran
into tho room where he was and ex-
oltedly told the sentry that the Yanks
were coming full tilt. T'bo guard ran
jut, and when he found It wns only a
icare and went back the prisoner
wasn't there. Ho got away through a
lecrct tunnel the farmer bad dug.
He was a beautiful runner we had
had experience In that aud an artful
dodger besides,
but he had little

felt no fear of
not catching

ind got about forty minutes' start; but,
Lord, that wasn't anything since he
was more than twenty miles from his

The dogs kept tho scent for shout a
mflc, when they lost It ut a creek. The
Yank bad walked In the water some
llstance, and tlien. Instead of getting
back on to dry land on the opposite
tide, he crossed farther up. This
threw the dogs off the scent for tjulte
iwhlle.
The first we beard of oar man be'd
taken a horse out of a widow's barn.
We followed him through a chimp of
bouses where there was a store and
learned thst he'd gone Into tho store,
told the storekeeper thst he was a
Confederate courier In a hurry with
Importsnt dispatches, helped himself to
what he could Und to eat and asked
the storekeeper If he bad any red pn

box, and the Ysnk Jumped on bis boroe
and galloped away.
Kunny. wasn't It a man flying from
the rope so particular about the sea

tracked blm aome ten miles, and a
was going straight In the direction of
Ihe Federal lines, but bis borne dtdnt
seem to be much of a besst for endur
ance, for we kept bearing of the man
nearer and nearer. Wben about two
mile ahead of ns he left the road aud
made for a big Held, letting down a
rail fence to gt Into It. H soon struck
the road again, and It was evident that
he'd made a cutoff. Then we followed
